Gatwick Airport pledges future investments in Crawley

Gatwick Airport has revealed plans to further support the nearby town of Crawley over the next couple of years by signing the Crawley Borough Council’s developer and partner charter, which requires signatories to demonstrate a willingness to use suppliers, hire employees and apprentices, and improve the skills of people in the area.

Gatwick Airport is currently involved in a number of major development projects, including the rebuilding of Pier 1 at a cost of £180m. Following this redevelopment process, the new building will feature five aircraft stands and a total floorspace of approximately 269,000 sq ft.

Derek Hendry, construction director at Gatwick Airport, said: "It’s great to be signing this charter today which really signifies our enthusiasm for supporting the area and its communities."

Councillor Claire Denman, of Crawley Borough Council, added: "This charter is a fantastic way for our partners to demonstrate their commitment to bettering the opportunities for local people; making development and investment an all-round win-win situation."
