Teaching block at University of Brighton set for ample refurbishment
Construction company Wilmott Dixon has managed to secure a contract worth £19m for refurbishing a teaching block for the University of Brighton, a news report in the local media has revealed.
The contract involves works on the Cockcroft building, which boasts 161,459 sq ft of space across ten storeys. As part of this project, Wilmott Dixon is set to develop new staff offices, IT facilities, specialist teaching areas and dedicated research facilities for use by a variety of university departments.
The project also involves the creation of a timber-decking terrace on the eighth floor, providing views across Brighton, and the replacement of all windows to improve energy efficiency.
Mike Hart, chief operating officer with responsibility for Willmott Dixon’s interiors work, said: "We’re delighted to be working with the team at the University of Brighton to ensure the Cockcroft building can meet the demands of the 21st century."
