Courier company to create 50 new jobs in Reading

Courier company DPD has managed to create 50 new jobs in Reading after investing £2.5m in a new state-of-the-art depot in the area, a recent news report in the local business media was able to reveal.

The new 36,000 sq ft unit at Imperial Way, Reading, will expand the group’s capacity to handle a significant increase in B2C parcel volumes, especially to the west of M25. It is expected that this move would create 47 new jobs.

The investment will expand the coverage of the Reading depot with between 30 to 35 new routes created, reaching as far as Guildford, Henley, Maidenhead and Windsor.

Chief executive Dwain McDonald said: "The level of investment in our network this year is unprecedented. Our new purpose built depot in Reading gives us a huge advantage in terms of location and sorter technology, meaning we can increase the number of parcels we handle and service more routes cost effectively.

"Reading is part of our ongoing programme of expansion, enabling us to increase our capacity, ensuring we are always several steps ahead of the competition and the growing demand for our services."
