Jobs in danger at GE Aviation Systems’ Hampshire plant

Up to 70 employees at the GE Aviation Systems’ plant in Hampshire are in danger of being made redundant due to tough economic conditions in the respective market segment, reports in the local business media can suggest.

The aircraft manufacturing firm, which employs approximately 950 staff at its Hamble site, said it began consultation with staff on 4 November. The proposed changes will affect approximately 73 staff over a two-year period, with 47 staff set to leave the company at the end of 2014 and 26 at the end of March 2015.

A final decision will be made on 8 December 2014.

A spokesman said: "The company will be offering support to those employees affected to find positions either within or outside GE, should these proposals go ahead. GE Aviation very much regrets the loss of any job.

"We make it a priority to keep our employees and their representatives up-to-date on market conditions and partner with them to look for opportunities to reduce costs and limit the impact of the current situation."
