Jobs at risk as construction company goes under administration

Up to 140 members of staff are in danger of losing their jobs as a project management firm for the construction industry has entered into administration, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Longcross Construction Ltd, part of Longcross Group, typically oversees building projects for retail outlets as well as some residential property. The firm’s latest financial accounts of Longcross Construction have revealed that the business fell into the red with pre-tax losses of almost £1.4m for the year ended 31 March 2014. Revenues for the year rose from £187.4m to £190.5m.

Lee Manning and Matt Smith of business advisory firm Deloitte have been appointed as joint administrators and have confirmed they are "immediately reviewing the options for the business".

Lee Manning said: "The company had been quite focused on the grocery business where cutbacks have been made on store expansions and refits.

"The directors concluded that the company was unable to continue to trade on this basis and resolved to place the company into administration. Work on site has been suspended while the joint administrators are considering the position."
