One school has taken the plunge and revamped its calendar — Greensward College in Hockley, Essex. Seven years ago its then chairman of governors, Ian Foster, led the move, which is aimed at cancelling out unpredictability caused by a floating Easter. He said: "At a very critical time of year, it could make exam preparations, planning revision and schemes of work more difficult." Greensward is now an academy, state-funded but operating outside local authority control, and has fortnight-long holidays in March and at the end of May, regardless of where Easter falls. However, the College retains the six-week summer break.
