Almost four jobseekers targeting the same position across UK, on average, report finds
Although employment levels have recorded a slight increase lately, a recent report by UNISON, the largest union within the UK, reveals the fact that there are still no less than four people chasing each available job across England, Scotland and Wales.
Naturally, this is just an estimate average, with the actual numbers varying between regions. For example, the worst place to be looking for a job right now is the Isle of Wight, where for every vacancy there are 23.7 people on Job Seekers Allowance.
London’s not doing particularly well either, since within around a third of its 32 boroughs, there are more than 10 unemployed people pursuing every job, while in Hackney there are actually more than 20 claimants for every vacant job.
Nationwide, in 26 local authorities, more than ten or more Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) claimants are chasing every vacant job, while in another 87 local authority areas there are between five and ten unemployed people chasing every job vacancy. Furthermore, in a further 108 local authority areas there are 3 or more but less than five JSA claimants for every unfilled position.
