A Chelmsford man was fined after stealing a school’s pet. The bird had been cared for by pupils at The Bishops’ CofE and RC Primary School, Chelmsford. Magistrates in Chelmsford ordered Anthony Campen, from Chelmsford, to pay £135 compensation and £85 costs after he admitted taking the animal. He was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the chicken by taking it to a house party for the “amusement of others” while under the influence of alcohol.
