Fareham Borough Council secures affordable housing funds

A local council in Hampshire has managed to secure £1.3m in government funding for building in excess of 100 new affordable homes in the area, a news report in the local media was able to reveal.

The funding was secured from the Homes and Communities Agency’s Affordable Homes Programme and will go towards building of 65 new affordable homes, including 36 sheltered housing apartments for the elderly sited at Admirals Wood, 16 general purpose one-bedroom flats in Fareham town centre and six family homes in Sarisbury.

Councillor Brian Bayford, executive member for health and housing, said: "This is the first time in over 35 years that there will be more than 100 new affordable homes built in Fareham in a year.

"The total investment of over £13m shows the commitment that the Council has to making sure that local people have access to quality affordable housing."
