Former Betteshanger Colliery near Dover to undergo major transformation as part of £100m scheme

The 299-acre former Betteshanger Colliery near Dover is set to be transformed into an impressive business park, as part of a regeneration scheme worth £100m, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

The park is set to create around 300 jobs after securing planning permission and 35 per cent of the business park has been pre-let to two tenants. It will include a 64,583 sq ft green technologies business park, a research, development and education centre and a visitor centre.

The Betteshanger Sustainable Parks project has managed to raise £12m in private funds out of a targeted £30m for the first phase of development and is currently waiting on a final funding decision from the Coastal Communities Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund to raise the remaining £4m of £10m public funding.

The scheme is supported by a partnership including Dover District Council, Kent County Council, East Kent Spatial Development Company and the Homes and Communities Agency. The project is expected to start on site in spring 2014.
