Output from South East manufacturers hits record high

As figures related to the manufacturing segment have grown across all of the UK regions, the same phenomenon applied to companies located in the South East, with around 57 percent of South East manufacturers reported increased output, up from just 18 per cent in the previous quarter.

As a news report in the local media has pointed out, the EEF/BDO Manufacturing Outlook survey, involving 290 companies and carried out between 31 July and 21 August 2013, also revealed a 31 per cent increase across the manufacturing sector in this quarter, compared to the forecast of 15 per cent for the third quarter.

Kevin Cook, partner at BDO, said: "With a domestic market at its strongest for almost three years, backed by export sales at a two-year high, manufacturers across all sectors and throughout the supply chain are feeling the benefits of an impressive return to confidence."

Jim Davison, South East region director at EEF, added: "There is growing confidence that improving trading conditions will continue into the final months of this year and then accelerate through the gears in 2014."
