Scheme to build 2,400 new homes receives planning permission

A development scheme that will see up to 2,400 new homes being built on a former army site in Hampshire has received planning permission from the local authority, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

The East Hampshire District Council has approved the application for Whitehill and Bordon, which includes a new town centre and 2,400 homes. The plans, submitted by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, the property arm of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), set out how the site will be redeveloped when Bordon Garrison closes later this year.

The application outlines how the 495-acre area – which includes Prince Philip Barracks, the Technical Training Area, Martinique House, Bordon and Oakhanger Sports Club and Hogmoor Inclosure – will be regenerated with new shops, offices, cafes, restaurants, a food store, a swimming pool in a new leisure centre, new schools and sports pitches.

The overall regeneration of the town will include 3,350 homes, 5,500 jobs, a town centre, new facilities, new schools and a new road.
