School software company to make 300 employees redundant

RM plc, a school management software company based in Abingdon, in rural Oxfordshire, has just revealed plans to make up to 300 of its staff members redundant, as part of a major reorganisation process designed to cut losses.

According to a news report in the local media, following a review of its Education Technology business, RM plc concluded the division’s focus will be on expanding existing software and services. Furthermore, the company’s subsidiary will also exit its declining, low margin sales of personal computing devices.

For this reason, the company is set to reduce its overall UK headcount, including temporary staff, by around 300 over the next 12 months.

RM stated: "The expected rundown in BSF activity combined with exiting personal computing device sales will result in a 50 per cent reduction in the division’s revenue over the next two fiscal years. It will also result in one-off costs of £10m which will be reflected as an exceptional item in the results for the fiscal year to 30 November 2013. This includes provisions relating to surplus property and redundancies."

RM will make significant reductions in the division’s associated sales, marketing activities and central services.
