South East firms display increased business optimism

The level of optimism has surged among companies from the South East, on account on larger volume orders, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

Findings from the Grant Thornton International Business Report showed that UK business optimism recorded an overall surge of 74 per cent over the past year – up from -3 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2012 to 71 per cent in the final quarter of last year.

Norman Armstrong, partner at Grant Thornton in Southampton, said the optimism was felt strongly in the southern business community.

He said: "The rebound in confidence and sustained performance of UK businesses over the past year is something that can truly be applauded.

"The broad base of the recovery, largely driven by mid-market businesses, sets a solid foundation for growth to continue in 2014, but it remains crucial we don’t rest on our laurels at this critical juncture."

Furthermore, the same report suggests that 69 per cent of UK businesses were expecting increased revenues over the next 12 months – a 20 per cent year-on-year rise.
