Eton College, a private Berkshire college with a famous educational name, will be one of the supporters of Holyport College which is a new state-funded free school near Maidenhead. Eton College will be the ‘educational sponsor’ of Holyport. Unions have called it “privatisation by the back door”, but in reply Eton headmaster Tony Little said: “I am not concerned what the model is.” Holyport College organisers aim to submit a planning application in the next few weeks.
